The UNO Rules And Cards (How to Play UNO Card Game)

UNO is a classic card game introduced by Mattel for people of all ages from kids to families, and involves 112 standard cards. In Uno, you have to match the color or number of the top card on the discard pile with one card in your hand. The first player to remove all their cards from their hands wins the game. But don’t forget to say “Uno” when you have only one card left, or you will face a penalty.

The UNO Card Game Instructions

To play the uno game on every turn, the players match the color or numbers on the top of the card of the discard pile. If any player is unable to play the card, they then draw cards from the draw pile until they play a legal card. To start a game of Uno, deal 7 cards to each player. Place the remaining draw pile face down on the table and the first player to dealers left side plays a card to start the discard pile.

Setup

The dealer mixed up the deck and dealt seven cards face down to each player and the remaining deck goes face down on the table as a draw deck. The person sitting next to the left of the dealer goes first.

Taking Turns

On a person’s turn, they can play one card from their hand to the discard pile. The card can only be played if it matches at least one attribute of the top card on the discard pile. Attributes include color, number, or symbol. If a player can’t play a card, they must draw the top card of the deck and add it to their hand.

Playing Cards

Players can play a card when it matches either the color or number of the card or if they have any wild cards. Cards can only be stacked with other cards with the same words or numbers. For example, Draw 2 cannot be stacked with Draw 4, and Wild cannot be stacked with Draw 4 Wild.

Other Rules

The penalty card must be called “Uno” as a warning to the other players. The first player to get rid of their last card wins the hand and scores 500 points for the cards held by each other player.

House Rules

The house rules in Uno are the custom rules that players add in the game for more fun and enjoyment (you can add house rules by using the blank cards by writing your preferred rules on the blank cards). The player who plays a house rule card can create any new rule that all cards with that house rule number on it must follow. For example, all players may be forced to do an action like clap, stand up, or raise their hands. The last player to perform that action must draw one card.

Rules Of Playing UNO Cards

• The first player makes a move based on the face-up card from the draw pile.
• Players can choose one card of the same color or number, whatever is in their hand.
• Players can only play one card at a time and put the card in the discard pile.
• Players can play any special card, even if they have a playable number or color in their hand.
• Players can only play a card if it matches at least one attribute of the top card on the discard pile.
• If a player cannot make a play or choose not to, then they must draw the top card of the deck and add it to their hand.
• The first player to get rid of all their cards wins the round and emptys his hands.
• The game continues until one person scores 500 points.

UNO Cards

The Uno deck contains 112 cards of 76 Number cards, 24 Action cards, and 8 Wild cards; each number card contains numbers from 0 to 9 with 19 cards of each color, and the action cards follow their own rules. These cards are made of four colors: blue, green, red, and yellow. For example, there are 2 blue 0 cards, 2 blue 1 cards, 2 blue 2 cards, and so on up to 2 blue 9 cards.

In the Uno game, we have 112 total cards which are the following:

• 19 Blue cards from 0 to 9
• 19 Green cards from 0 to 9
• 19 Red cards from 0 to 9
• 19 Yellow cards from 0 to 9
• 8 Skip cards (each in Blue, Green, Red, and Yellow)
• 8 Reverse cards (each in Blue, Green, Red, and Yellow)
• 8 Draw 2 cards (each in Blue, Green, Red, and Yellow)
• 4 Wild cards
• 4 Wild Draw 4 cards
• 4 Blank Cards

How to Play UNO Card Game

To play the uno game you need a deck of 108 Uno cards, which has four colors: red, yellow, green, and blue. Each color has cards from 0 to 9 numbers on them, and some special cards like Skip, Reverse, Draw Two, Wild, and Wild Draw Four.

• To start the game, you need to choose a dealer who shuffles the cards and deals seven cards to each player. Then the dealer places the remaining cards face down to form the draw pile. Turn over the top card of the draw pile and place it to start the turn.
• The player on the dealer’s left side goes first and draws the first card. Next, all players have to play a card from their hand that matches the color, number, or symbol of the top card of the discard pile.
• During the gameplay, if any player doesn’t find a matching card, they have to draw a card from the draw pile. when they can play the drawn card, they have to keep it and end their turn.

• Some special cards have different effects when played:
  • Skip: The skip card in uno is used to skip the next player’s order and the next player loses their turn.
  • Reverse: The reverse card is used to reverse the direction of play by making the player reverse his turn and again draw cards in a backward direction. If the game was going clockwise, it now goes counterclockwise, and vice versa.
  • Draw Two: The draw 2 card makes the next player order to draw two cards from the draw pile and lose their turn.
  • Wild: The wild card allows the player to choose any color to draw a card from the discard pile to play the card on any color, the player who plays this card can choose any color for the next card to be played.
  • Wild Draw Four: The wild draw 4 card allows the player to play a card on any color of cards and makes the next player to draw 4 cards from the discard pile, the player who plays this card can choose any color for the next card to be played, and the next player order has to draw four cards from the draw pile and lose their turn.
• When a player has only one card left in their hand, they have to say “Uno” out loudly and If they forget to yell UNO and another player notices before they play their next card, they have to draw two cards as a penalty.
• The game ends when one player has no cards left in their hand and says uno to win the round. The winner of the game scores 500 points based on the cards left in the other players’ hands. Each number card is worth its face value, each special card is worth 20 points, and each wild card is worth 50 points.
• You can play the game for several rounds until one player reaches a target score, such as 500 points. The player with the highest score at the end of the game is the overall winner.
