How to Play Snaps Game

Snaps is a fun and easy game that you can play with your friends or family. The game involves spelling out the name of a celebrity or a clue related to the celebrity using sentences and snaps. The other players have to guess the name based on the clues.

To start the game, the snapper and the other players who know how to play will leave the room and let the rest of the players choose a celebrity name. The name can be a first name, a last name, or a full name. It can also be a nickname, a stage name, or a character name.

When the snapper and the other players come back, the snapper will announce how they will give the clues. There are three ways to do this:

  • If the snapper says “Snaps is the name of the game”, they will spell out the name of the celebrity using sentences and snaps.
  • If the snapper says “Snaps isn’t the name of the game”, they will spell out a clue related to the celebrity, such as a movie title, a song title, or a catchphrase.
  • If the snapper says “Snaps may be the name of the game”, they will spell out a common name that the celebrity is known by, such as Madonna, Beyoncé, or Drake.

How to Give Clues

The snapper will start by saying a sentence that begins with the first letter of the name or the clue. For example, if the name is Tom Cruise, the snapper may say “Today is a good day”. The other players have to pay attention to the letter T in the word today.

The snapper will then snap their fingers to indicate the vowels in the name or the clue. The number of snaps corresponds to the position of the vowel in the alphabet. For example:

  • 1 snap for A
  • 2 snaps for E
  • 3 snaps for I
  • 4 snaps for O
  • 5 snaps for U

For example, if the name is Tom Cruise, the snapper will snap four times after saying the first sentence. This means that the next letter is O.

The snapper will continue to give clues by saying sentences and snapping until they finish spelling out the name or the clue. They will pause between each letter to give the other players time to guess. The snapper does not give any clue for the spaces between the words. The other players have to figure out where the words end and begin.

How to Guess the Name

The other players have to guess the name of the celebrity based on the clues given by the snapper. They can shout out their guesses at any time during the game. The first player who guesses the name correctly wins the game and becomes the next snapper. If no one guesses the name correctly, the snapper can reveal the answer and choose the next snapper.

How to Keep Score

There is no official way to keep score in Snaps. The game is more about having fun and testing your knowledge of celebrities. However, if you want to make the game more competitive, you can assign points to the players based on their performance. For example:

  • The snapper gets 1 point for every letter they spell out correctly.
  • The guessing player gets 2 points for every correct guess.
  • The snapper loses 1 point for every incorrect clue they give.
  • The guessing player loses 1 point for every incorrect guess.

The player with the most points at the end of the game round declared as the winner.

Variations of Snaps

There are many variations of Snaps that you can try to keep the game interesting. Here are a few ideas:

Speed Snaps

In this version, players must snap as quickly as possible when they cannot play a card. The last player to snap must draw two cards instead of one.

Reverse Snaps

In this variation, players must play the opposite of the previous card. For example, if a 7 of hearts is played, the next player must play a 7 of any suit or any heart card.

Snaps with Penalties

In this version, players must draw a card from the draw pile if they snap incorrectly or forget to snap when they cannot play a card.
