Components

The Dorfromantik game includes the following components:

  • 1 Game Board: The board shows the scoring area, the tile supply, and the campaign progress.
  • 6 Player Boards: Each board shows the player’s current tile, the next tile, and the population’s wishes.
  • 6 Player Tokens: Each token represents one player and is used to mark the score on the game board.
  • 6 Tile Holders: Each holder holds one player’s current and the next tile.
  • 120 Landscape Tiles: The tiles show different types of terrain and features, such as rivers, forests, fields, villages, and flags. The tiles are divided into four sets: A, B, C, and D. Each set has a different color and symbol on the back.
  • 12 Locked Boxes: The boxes contain additional tiles and rules that can be unlocked during the campaign mode. The boxes are numbered from 1 to 12 and have a sticker seal.
  • 1 Rulebook: The rulebook explains the rules and the components of the game. It also contains the campaign mode and the solo mode rules.

Setup

To set up the game, follow these steps:

  • Place the game board in the center of the table.
  • Choose a difficulty level: easy, normal, or hard. The difficulty level decides the tiles and points required to unlock a box in campaign mode.
  • Shuffle the landscape tiles of set A and place them face down on the designated spaces on the game board, according to the chosen difficulty level. Leave the remaining spaces empty for now.
  • Each player chooses a player board and a player token of the same color and places them in front of them. The player places their token on the zero space of the score track on the game board.
  • Each player takes a tile holder and puts it next to their player board. The player draws two tiles from the tile supply and places them on their tile holder, with the current tile on the left and the next on the right.
  • The player who most recently visited the countryside in real life is the first player and takes the first player token. The game is now ready to begin.

Dorfromantik Rules

The game is played over a series of rounds, each consisting of two phases:

  • Tile Placement Phase: Each player places one tile on the table adjacent to an existing tile and scores points for matching terrain and features.
  • Tile Draw Phase: Each player draws one tile from the supply and places it on their tile holder, shifting the next tile to the current tile slot.

The game ends when the tile supply is empty, or no player can place a tile. The players then add the points from their population wishes and flags to their score on the score track. The player with the most points is the winner of the game. In a tie, the player with the most flags is the winner. If there is still a tie, the tied players share the victory.

Tile Placement Phase

During the tile placement phase, each player places one tile on the table adjacent to an existing tile and scores points for matching terrain and features. The possible terrain types are rivers, forests, fields, and villages. The possible features are train track, flag, and population wish.

To place a tile, the player must follow these rules:

  • The tile must be placed adjacent to at least one existing tile, with at least one side touching.
  • The tile must match the terrain type of all adjacent tiles unless a train track or a river separates them.
  • The tile must only create a gap between two existing tiles if a train track or a river separates them.

After placing a tile, the player scores points for matching terrain and features, as follows:

  • The player scores one point for each side of the tile that matches the terrain type of the adjacent tile unless a train track or a river separates them.
  • The player scores one point for each train track segment on the tile if the tile is connected to another with a train track segment.
  • The player scores one point for each river segment on the tile if the tile is associated with another river segment.
  • The player scores one point for each flag on the tile if the tile completes an area of the same terrain type. An area is completed when train tracks, rivers, or the table’s edge surround it. The player also places one of their flags on the finished area to mark it as theirs.
  • The player scores one point for each population wish on the tile if the tile fulfills the wish of the population. A population wish is fulfilled when the tile is adjacent to a certain number of tiles with the same terrain type. This requirement is indicated on the player board.
  • The game also has a solo mode, where you can play against AI opponents with different personalities and strategies. The unattended mode is a great way to practice your skills and challenge yourself.
  • The game also has a beautiful and soothing soundtrack inspired by the video game that enhances the atmosphere and mood. Dorfromantik Board Game is a game that will make you feel good and calm while also stimulating your mind and creativity.”
