All UNO Wild Card Rules (uno wild cards)

The wild cards are cards that have no specific color or number, but they have special effects that can help you have more fun. There are six types of wild cards in UNO: Wild, Wild Draw 2, Wild Draw 4, Wild Shuffle Hands, Wild Customizable, and Wild Blank. Each of these wild cards has its own rule that you need to know and follow when you play them. Here are the rules for wild cards and how they work:

Wild card

This is the most basic wild card, and it can match any card in the discard pile. After playing a wild card, you can choose the color that continues to play. For example, if the top card of the discard pile is a red 8, you can play a wild card and say “blue.” Then, the next player has to play a blue card or another wild card.

Wild Draw 2 card (uno +2 card)

This is a wild card that also forces the next player to draw two cards from the draw pile and skip their turn. After playing a wild draw 2 card, you can choose the color that continues play. For example, if the top card of the discard pile is a green 7, you can play a wild draw 2 card and say “yellow.” Then, the next player has to draw two cards and miss their turn, and the following player has to play a yellow card or another wild card.

Wild Draw 4 card (uno +4 card)

This is a wild card that also forces the next player to draw four cards from the draw pile and skip their turn. After playing a wild draw 4 card, you can choose the color that continues play. For example, if the top card of the discard pile is a blue 9, you can play a wild draw 4 card and say “red.” Then, the next player has to draw four cards and miss their turn, and the following player has to play a red card or another wild card.

However, there is a catch with this card. You can only play it if you don’t have any cards in your hand that match the current color. If you do, you have to play one of those cards instead. If you play a wild draw 4 card when you have a matching card, the next player can challenge you. If they do, you have to show them your hand. If they are right, you have to draw four cards instead of them. If they are wrong, they have to draw six cards instead of four.

Wild Shuffle Hands card

This is a wild card that also shuffles all the cards in the players’ hands. After playing a wild shuffle hands card, you can choose the color that continues to play. For example, if the top card of the discard pile is a yellow 3, you can play a wild shuffle hands card and say “green.” Then, all the players have to give their cards to you, and you shuffle them together. Then, you deal the cards back to the players, starting with yourself and going clockwise. The next player has to play a green card or another wild card.

Wild Customizable card

This is a blank card that you can use to write your own rule on it. You can use one to three of these cards in a game, depending on how creative you want to be. You can write any rule that you want, as long as it is clear and fair. For example, you can write “swap hands with any player,” “play two cards at once,” or “sing a song or draw a card.” You can also choose the color of the card by drawing a circle around it.

When you play a wild customizable card, you have to follow the rule that you wrote on it. You can also choose the color that continues play. For example, if the top card of the discard pile is a red 6, you can play a wild customizable card that says “swap hands with any player” and circle the color blue. Then, you have to swap your cards with another player of your choice, and the next player has to play a blue card or another wild card.

Wild Blank card

This is a blank card that you can use as a regular wild card. You can play it on any turn, even if you have cards that match the current color, number, or symbol. However, you have to choose a color that continues play. For example, if the top card of the discard pile is a green 0, you can play a wild blank card and say “red.” Then, the next player has to play a red card or another wild card.

You can also play a wild blank card on a draw 2 or a draw 4 card. This will cancel the effect of the draw card and allow you to choose the color that continues play. For example, if the top card of the discard pile is a wild draw 4 card that says “yellow,” you can play a wild blank card and say “blue.” Then, the next player doesn’t have to draw four cards, and they have to play a blue card or another wild card.

Wild card at the beginning of play

If the first card of the discard pile is a wild card, the person to the left of the dealer chooses the color that continues to play. For example, if the first card is a wild draw 2 card, the person to the left of the dealer has to draw two cards and choose the color. Then, the next player has to play a card of that color or another wild card.

However, some players may prefer to avoid starting the game with a wild card, as it can give an unfair advantage to the first player. In that case, players can agree to move the wild card to the bottom of the pile and flip the next top card. Then, the game starts with that card instead. For example, if the first card is a wild draw 4 card, players can decide to put it at the bottom of the pile and flip the next card, which is a blue 8. Then, the person to the left of the dealer has to play a blue card or another wild card.
